Yoga...

I am by nature not a morning person. In fact, the alarm clock is on my husband's side of the bed because just the sound of the alarm going off almost instantly makes me very angry. LOL, I can't explain it. I just hate waking up to an alarm (well the kind you plug into the wall, because now my alarm clock is a cute two year old that wakes me up by saying, "mommy, mommy.")

For some time, I have really been wanting to incorporate yoga into my exercise regime. However, the only yoga class offered at the gym I attend is at 6:00 a.m., which means that I would have to leave my house at 5:30, which means it's not going to happen. I used to try to convince myself that I could do it, but even I couldn't fool myself. I just really like to sleep.

So, I decided that I needed to find a good Yoga video. Now, I really really want to do this. I often wake up with a backache and after lifting weights, no matter how much I stretch, I'm still sore...so I think yoga would help in those areas, plus make me stronger. However, I don't want this video to end up with the collection of videos that I "really really wanted to do." I mean I had every intention to do the Billy Blanks Bootcamp videos, Pilates and Jillian Michaels.....but when I purchased those I was looking for more of a quick fix, not scheduling a designated amount of time in my schedule to work out.

So, anyone have any good suggestions??? Unfortunately, we don't have fit tv, so that free option is out. I have downloaded a few to my ipod, so I'll let you know if they are any good. Okay, if you have yoga tips, please share!

  1. There are some yoga videos on hulu.com. I haven't ever tried them, because I'm just now trying to get back into the work out routine after the boy child was born. I need something like that, too. Carrying around my 14 1/2 lb 2 month old is taking quite the toll on my back and shoulders.

  2. Don't do Yoga (or any stretching) in front of a mirror. You get bored with looking at yourself day in and day out and you will stop doing it.
A tv works great. Ipods are addictive, break the habit of using them while running because you tune out of your surroundings and can get hit by a car, but they are great for treadmill work.

Above all, don't waste time with too-light weights....if you can do more than twelve reps in a set, you are not doing anything. Don't worry, you won't bulk up...

    well, you asked for advise...

  3. I love my prenatal yoga DVD, but it's pretty cheesy...and probably not difficult enough if you're not pregnant. But you should see the outfits the girls are wearing on it--they are hilarious.. Very pregnant women wearing unitards and no bras is not a pretty sight!
